Also referred to as "moss people", butterfly fairies are thought to have  originated in Switzerland and/or Germany, the Islands, and Africa. These exceptional creatures are very shy and they go out of their way to avoid humans.  They typically hide in dark, mossy areas. To see them is a blessing and means good fortune for you. Sightings of these fairies is uncommon due to the expansion of civilization and reduction of woodland areas.

Butterfly fairies have butterfly wings attached to their bodies and they can be male or female.  They are often mistaken for Monarch butterflies. They generally don't aid humans but if they come to trust you are good luck to have around. Should you happen upon a butterfly faery move slowly and make no attempt to capture it. Let it know you are a friend and mean it no harm.

This dancing butterfly fairy is made of a base of Spanish moss and sticks, and wrapped in the finest colorful yarns.
